Today we drove west to Queenstown - the adrenaline sports capital of New Zealand (home of bungy jumping). Thanks to another good tip from Graeme, we stopped at Kawarau Bridge (about 35 km before Queenstown) to watch several people much braver than ourselves take the 43-metre plunge by bungy to the river below, many ending up half submerged in the water - and we did it for free!
In Queenstown, the girls had fun playing on the main beach. After that, we took the gondola up the mountain to a beautiful overlook of Lake Wakatipu - the longest (over 70 km) and deepest (avg. 360 m) in New Zealand. At the "top," we took a chairlift to the real top to try the luge - that was a blast! Teaghan and I rode together and Mom & Rowan road together. Each team set course records - T & D for fastest team and R & M for slowest! Just kidding - everyone agreed it was the highlight of the day.
The town itself is surrounded by the range called "The Remarkables," cool name, and well-deserved. Another beautiful day in Central Otago - we could definitely get used to this!
