We spent a marvellous month in Port Macquarie, mostly just enjoying the beach life. The locals were very friendly - thanks to Barb, John & Danny at The Sandcastle, in particular. We also enjoyed meeting Lyndsay, Shona & their daughters. Thank you for making us feel so welcome! We loved the small-town atmosphere in Port and were told several times by people we met, "Ah, you'll be back.". Who knows, maybe they are right!!!!
The first photo is of small balls of sand (almost perfectly-formed circles) that are the product of tiny sand crabs burrowing in the sand to filter feed and eject the unwanted sand out the tunnels onto the beach. The effect is quite striking. We had the impression of coming across some abstract art formed from hundreds of beads - beautiful! The photo with Rowan was taken on one of the outcroppings of rocks at the south end of Town Beach, right across from the apartment in which we were staying. Those rocks were only accessible at low tide, so we explored there several days, observing crabs, fish and other sea life in the tide pools. The next two photos were taken on a sunset cruise on the Hastings River our second last night in Port. We lucked out in that there was only one other couple on board, so it was almost like a private cruise. Teaghan took the photo of Judy & me - true love after 15 years!!!!! The last shot was taken outside a popular jeweller's in Australia (apparently one of the biggest). We first encountered this company in Fiji on our way to NZ, but were too dopey from lack of sleep to take a photo. Hmmm... I wonder if they have any Canadian relatives...........

We loved Rainbow Beach (in Bonny Hills, about 15k south of Port). The waves were similar to those at Flynn's Beach in town, but it was much less crowded. Honestly, we could have taken videos like this every day of our stay in Port, so this is just to give everyone an idea of what we were able to enjoy - not the biggest surf of our visit, but still plenty of fun for the girls.
