We landed in Sydney after a pleasant flight from Auckland (although everyone was up at 3:30 AM to make it to the airport!) and after making our way through 3 checkpoints at the Sydney airport, picked up our car and made the 4.5 hr drive up to Port Macquarie. We were all a bit sad to be leaving NZ, but at the same time looking forward to continuing our adventures in a new country - Australia!
Monday afternoon, we visited the Koala Hospital just down the road from where we are staying, to see koalas and listen to volunteers explain how they care for these adorable creatures (who have been injured in bush fires or road incidents mostly) until they are able (whenever possible) to be released back into the wild. The visit was very informative and the girls fell in love with the "patients."
The next day, we visited Billabong Koala & Wildlife Park. We saw many types of animals indigenous to Australia, but the hit of the visit was feeding the kangaroos, wallabies, and wallaroos - check out the girls' pages (as well as Judy's video below)!
