Ok, we're finally getting around to posting these videos (computer issues have delayed them). Watch these two videos to get a feel for the layout of the city (I told you there were hills!).
What better way to celebrate our daughter's birthday than to go on a tour of a chocolate factory!!! Bev, Nathalie O. and Chantal, you would love this tour!! They gave us bags to put the chocolate in that they handed out during the tour. Lots of yummy samples!! The Birthday Girl was treated to EXTRA chocolate!
We walked up Baldwin street which is the steepest residential street in the world. We will be posting videos of Ron running up this street shortly!! We went for a great walk to Tunnel Beach! the kids had a blast playing and climbing! Where do they get all this energy??!!! Ron and I have been enjoying running here. I especially love running on the beach in the morning!! A few days ago (computer issues have delayed our ability to post regularly here) while we were exploring downtown Dunedin, Teaghan and I found ourselves wondering around The Octagon and came across this statue of Robert Burns. What's his connection to Dunedin? His nephew Thomas Burns was one of the City's founding fathers.
Bonus points to any of our followers who can name the poem the excerpt is from! If you find it, read the whole poem and enjoy....... We arrived in Dunedin on Monday and got to our house in the St. Kilda section of the city in the early afternoon. The house is a five-minute walk to the beach and we have all had a blast walking, running, and playing on it all week. On Tuesday, Judy discovered a hot salt-water pool in the neighbouring town of St. Clair. We went there in the afternoon and were amazed at the beauty of the location - literally right on the rocks of the cove so close to the water that the waves sometimes broke over the wall. Later that day, we went into the downtown area of Dunedin and visited the historic train station.
The city itself is located in a physically beautiful setting, situated on a natural harbour and built across several hills - great for running! It is known as a university town and Judy & I have both noticed that it seems to have a great vibe about it. |
